I had OSX 10.4.1 running on my P4 3.0 tonight. It was a revelation. If Apple thinks they can stop the masses from pirating this one, they are wrong. It was a sad, sad thing when I realized I had to boot back into windows.

This is an optimistic prediction, but I agree that it would certainly be in Apple's best interests to enable PC owners to have a choice amongst more than one bona fide commercial OS.
Even with the initial sketchy install working on my computer, I could immediately see the potential here. In the past, hard-core geeks may have had their gripes about Apple's hardware: slower clock speeds, too expensive, etc. Now, they have an opportunity to try OS X on their own homebuilt machine and make a direct comparison.
On my 3Ghz machine with 1/2 gig ram, you can open every app that comes with the OS all at once, with barely a hint of slowdown. That amounts to approx. 12GB of virtual memory usage! It takes it in stride.
This is such a great opportunity for experienced users to say Fuck-you to Microsoft in a whole new way!
